The mountain bike bug found me back in March. My LEO and I took a sort-of-last minute 4-day mountain bike trip in Moab, UT and rode the White Rim trail with a group of about 15 people. The trail is 90 miles total and I biked about 75 miles of it and then hitched a ride in one of the support vehicles for the other 15 miles.
I rented a mountain bike for the trip because my mountain bike was the $75 special from Target/Walmart and it would have lasted 2 seconds on this trip. A few days after the trip, however, I purchased a mountain bike and started riding more and more. We have some paved trails and also have a 4 mile easy mountain bike trail right near our house. Its a fun and challenging activity that I really enjoy.
Fast forward to present day ~> My LEO was off work yesterday and came into my office around lunch time(I work from home) and had one of those I need to tell you something looks. It definitely wasnt a hows your day going type of looks. He proceeds to tell me he just bought a full suspension 29 inch wheel mountain bike. UhhhWhat?!! So seconds after I logged off work, I was in the truck and we were headed to pick up his bike and take it for a spin. We have some great mountain biking trails within 15 minutes or so from our house that we hadnt been on for a few years. I did not have the best memory of these trails because I was using my $75 special which was useless on these trails.
Considering I did not get to the gym yesterday, it was a fun and challenging way to get in a workout. One may think biking only works your legs but it definitely works your core, arms, shoulders, back, etc. Im so happy the trip back in March got me out of my comfort zone and into trying something new.
Do you try activities outside your comfort zone? Was it successful or a catastrophe? Id love to hear your story!
I belong to a gym and love being at a gym for my workouts. I generally do not do well working out at home unless its a run or a bicycle ride. I realize that some of you may not go to a gym for a variety reasons: cost, location, intimidation, etc.
Here is my At Home workout that I did today ~>
I went on a 3 mile run. I ran 1.5 miles and then I walk/jog/semi-sprinted for the remaining 1.5 miles. I typically use the light posts as my checkpoints so I walked to one light post, jogged to the next, then semi-sprinted to the next and repeat this cycle for 1.5 miles.
Here is the workout I did after my run, along with a recent after picture I submitted for a contest I entered via James Wilsons program. All the workout required was a jump rope, a yoga mat, a kitchen table chair, my kitchen timer, & some tunes. I did this all in my driveway but you could certainly do this anywhere. This could even be a good workout while stuck living in a hotel or not having access to a gym. Ultimately, this circuit covered most of my body partsI just lifted biceps yesterday so I did not work my biceps. The list of alternative exercises is endless: squats, lunges, high knees, side planks, burpees, spider-mans, butt kickers, etc. I timed mine but depending on your level, you could do a certain number of reps of each exercise instead. You could even throw in an exercise band and have even more possibilities with some resistance instead of body weight exercises.
Do you workout at home or a gym? If you workout at home, do you have a home gym or do you do exercises similar to above?
